Mind. Body. Spirit. Adventure! Let's live our Yoga - on and off the mat... With ease, immerse yourself in the YIN of mind, body, and spirit to unwind and cherish the moments... while enjoying the YANG of fun and adventurous pursuits and play: Learn how to Surf, SUP & Snorkel!

... in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica!

I fell in love with Santa Teresa last year - and you will too! Once a sleepy fishing village, it's now been referred to the new Tulum.

Set in paradise, this is an experiential retreat specifically curated to awaken your sense of wonder. To reconnect deeply with your inner self. To be inspired by the beauty all around you. To explore! To PLAY! To Transform Your Life - through adventure, through JOY!

Through pose (asanas), prose (meditations and affirmations), and prana (breath), together we will weave mindfulness in every moment - off and on the mat - and experience the joy of living in the moment.

Small Group Size: The group size will be kept to a max of 8. This will allow a natural flow of opening and sharing deep conversations to honour your personal transformation and create lasting friendships.

Beginner-Friendly: This retreat is very beginner-friendly, making it ideal for beginner yoginis, those who enjoy savouring the basic and essential foundations of mind, body and spirit, and for those who enjoy being in the company of like-minded and adventurous women!

Daily Yoga: Treat yourself to daily yoga classes and meditation in open air shalas in the jungle or on the beach. We'll go with the flow, honouring our body blueprint in the moment - with mindful transitions, gentle stretches, yin and restorative poses. Open your heart to receive the gift of presence.

Adventure: The endless beach, wild palm trees, howler monkeys, ocean spray... Nature at its finest. What better backdrop for your AH-HA moments! If you've ever wanted to learn to surf or Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP), this is the ideal place for you - the conditions are perfect for beginners! The surf lessons will take place in the foamie / whitewash (after the wave breaks) so you’re really only chest to waist water deep. You got this! For SUP’ers, we’ll explore the coast line of Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve - Costa Rica’s first nature reserve designated in 1963. How cool is that! We'll also go on a day-long field trip to Tortuga Island to snorkel in the crystalline waters with plenty of options to go hiking, kayaking, ride a banana boat or take a little siesta on the beach. Lunch will be served fresh too! And if your sense of adventure lusts for more, there's plenty of other fun-inducing options (not included on retreat): rent an ATV to explore the coast, go hiking, horseback riding, zip-lining, and more!

Massage: A full body 1 hour massage. On. The. Beach. Nuff said yummm!

Make Your Own Meditation Mala Beads: To help embed intention and carry the healing power of your personal experience with you wherever you may be, we'll also be making our own Mala beads (meditation beads / necklaces), infusing it with the essence of Pura Vida!

Let's create unforgettable memories - and live your story of personal empowerment you'll cherish forever!

Pura Vida! Pura Prana!! xo

From San Jose

Option 1: Quickest by Flight
The fastest way to get into Santa Teresa is to take a quick 30 minute domestic flight from San Jose to Tambor (approx $100 USD).* Then take a 1 hour taxi or shuttle from Tambor to Funky Monkey Lodge (approx $25-$50 USD).  The great thing about flying is the stunning view of the Gulf of Nicoyo and the pristine jungle as you fly overhead. Note that these are all propeller planes that are tight for space and have limited seating capacity. Also, keep your luggage below 30lbs! Every pound over 30, you’re required to pay $1 USD in fees (i.e $1 USD/pound). Ground transport can be arranged with Funky Monkey prior to arrival. Estimated total travel time: 1.5 hrs. Estimate total cost: $125-$150 USD.

*Fly via Sansa Airlines. Check the time of the last flight of the day to see if you can connect on the same day you arrive in San Jose. If you are unable to connect, you will have to stay overnight in San Jose to catch the flight the next morning. http://flysansa.com

Option 2: Direct Bus
There is a direct bus leaving from San Jose center - Terminal 7/10 at 6 am. and 2 pm. The bus will stop at the entrance to Funky Monkey Lodge. Estimated total travel time: 6 hrs. Estimate total cost: $15 USD. https://www.laterminalcostarica.com/Home/Index?agencia=NICOYAPENINSULA

Option 3: By Land and Ferry with Montezuma Expeditions
Public shuttle from the San Jose Airport to Funky Monkey Lodge can be arranged with Montezuma Expeditions. This includes a pick-up at San Jose Airport, transfer and ferry ride from Puntarenas to Paqueras, then on to Santa Teresa. Watch for marine life, i.e. dolphins, schools of manta rays, flying fish and maybe even whales! Estimated total travel time: 5-6 hours, includes 1 hour ferry ride. Estimated total cost: $50 USD one way, includes ferry ticket. https://montezumaexpeditions.com

Option 4: By Land and Taxi Boat via Zuma Tours *
Shared shuttle from San Jose to Funky Monkey Lodge via taxi boat can be arranged with Zuma Tours. Board a shuttle in San Jose, transfer and take boat ride from Herradura Beach (next to Jaco) to Montezuma, then take a shuttle straight to your lodging. This is a fun and scenic crossing with a chance for a close encounter with marine wildlife, i.e. dolphins and whales! Every boat has a roof that covers about 70% of it to offer some shade and has a capacity of 12 to 30 passengers, with luggage. Note there is a weight restriction of luggage: 22kg/50Lb maximum per person, normally one small and one large backback or suitcase. Estimated total travel time: 4 hours, includes 1 hour boat ride. Estimated total cost: $85 USD. http://www.zumatours.net/from-san-jose-airport-shuttles-transfers

From Liberia
Daily shared shuttles depart from Liberia Airport twice per day, i.e. approximately at 8:00 am and 03:00 pm heading to Santa Teresa. Estimated total travel time: 5 hours. Estimated total cost: $50 USD

“Turning 65, a milestone birthday and the desire to connect with my girlfriends in a meaningful way brought a group of 6 of us together on the French River under the thoughtful guidance of Marissa. There were many awesome moments of sharing and caring and celebrating friends no longer with us. Marissa was the perfect conduit in providing the atmosphere, activities and enrichment for this somewhat diverse group of friends through Yoga, kayaking, canoeing and SUPing. Her calm and spiritual presence was a wonderful foil for some of these A Type personalities and created an amazing balance amongst us. I would highly recommend going on one of Marissa's journeys with her as you will most definitely return enriched through this experience.”  ~ Pam O.

“This Retreat helped me re-examine my life-long goals through self-reflection. Dr. Irene provided everyone with the tools and knowledge to move forward with our lives, while the interactive approach has empowered me to share my experience with family and colleagues. On a personal note, this Retreat became a spiritual journey for me, as it revitalized all aspects of my life (i.e. inner peace, strength, confidence, love, energy etc.). What I have taken away from this weekend is simple “Enjoy life to the fullest and make time for ourselves”. I look forward to continuing on my path with the guidance of Dr. Irene and her wisdom. Thank you for the most amazing liberating weekend of my life and I look forward to many future retreats!!! Namaste” ~ Lisa C.
